Topics getting the most attention in Sunnyvale public meetings, ranked by how frequently they come up.
Homeless services contract with WeHOPE
The city is spending $3.25 million to keep and expand WeHOPE's homeless services — street outreach, hotel sheltering, mobile showers and winter weather hotel program — through September 2027.
Five-year homelessness response plan
County officials presented the draft 2026 plan focused on prevention, housing, street outreach, and lived-experience leadership. Sunnyvale data showed 1,364 residents housed under the last plan, but councilmembers flagged shelter safety, RV safe parking, and a confusing entry system for people seeking help.
FY 2026/27 Budget Adoption
The city adopted its next-year budget, adding public safety staff including a new community crime response team, a 13-year sidewalk repair plan, expanded safe routes to school, and a new nonprofit grant program. Residents raised federal funding cuts hitting Sunnyvale Community Services and questions about enterprise funds and pension liability.
RV Parking and Vanlording Ordinance
Council moved to tighten the 72-hour parking rule — vehicles must move at least 1,000 feet and can't return to the same spot for 24 hours — plus bans on 'vanlording' and inoperable trailers. Decisions on oversized vehicle permits and bans near parks and schools were pushed a year. Many speakers urged safe parking first.
