Salon permit dispute at 422 S. Murphy Avenue
A 20-year Sunnyvale stylist appealed the permit granted to a competing appointment-only hair consultation business in the same 1942 office building, saying she was told four times the space couldn't be permitted. The commission upheld the permit, saying competition isn't a land-use consideration and the applicant followed the process.
Neighborhood-Serving Retail Support (OCM 2026-1)
Sunnyvale ranks low in per-capita sales tax revenue compared with neighboring cities, and commissioners want the Council to fund a retail support program. The recommendation goes to the Council on June 2.
Food Truck Displacement at 208 S. Fair Oaks Avenue
A resident asked the commission to help save Tacos el Noa Noa, a food truck being forced out after five years due to parking requirements. Staff agreed to connect the owner with the right contact.
Retail decline in North Sunnyvale
Speaker after speaker warned that housing keeps getting approved while grocery stores and shops disappear — Fair Oaks Plaza is under redevelopment and may not include a grocery. Commissioners agreed the concern is real but said state law gives them no tool to require retail.
